Sofía Shaula Reeser-del Rio is an intersectional scholar, curator, artist, and educator, focusing on Latinx, Latin American, and Caribbean artists. Her curatorial practice examines the intersections of identity, belonging, and social justice, such as in the exhibitions Psycho-tropics: Belonging Elsewhere (2024) at EFA Project Space, New York, and Building Radical Soil (2022) at the Latinx Project at New York University. Currently the Associate Director of Programs & Curator at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center in New York, Sofía is developing and co-leading a three-year, city-wide initiative: the Historias project. She is also a Visiting Assistant Professor in Fine Arts at Pratt Institute, New York, and a fellow in the Incubator for Executive Leaders of Color with the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). Past curatorial roles include work at the Americas Society, New York; Art in Odd Places, New York; El Museo del Barrio, New York; and the Museo Memoria y Tolerancia, Mexico City. At El Museo, Sofía led artist programs such as the Artists in Residency and Lucky Sevens Art Salon, and supported the organization of over thirty exhibitions. Recent writing contributions include texts on Elyla and Yinka Shonibare in the 60th Venice Biennale exhibition and catalogue, Stranieri Ovunque/Foreigners Everywhere (2024), curated by Adriano Pedrosa. She holds an MFA from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, a BFA from Pratt, and has studied at the University of Puerto Rico. Dedicated to community engagement and cultural enrichment, Sofía is an active member of the community-based nonprofit organization Mujeres de Islas in Culebra, Puerto Rico. Born in San Juan and raised in Culebra, Sofía currently resides in New York City.
