William Hernández Luege

William Hernández Luege has committed his career to the examination of modern and contemporary art of the Americas, with a focus on the relationships between ideology, political theory, and aesthetics. He also works within the field to establish best practices on artist demographic representation in collections and display. As a Curatorial Associate of Painting and Sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), he is currently supporting a retrospective of Ruth Asawa. Previously William was the Curatorial Assistant, Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis where he curated Kahlil Robert Irving: Archeology of the Present (2023) and Allan Sekula: Fish Story (2023–2024), and supported the curation of Multiple Realities: Experimental Art in the Eastern Bloc, 1960s–1980s (2023–2024). His writing has been published in support of Rindon Johnson’s work at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024) and in the Walker exhibition catalogue Jannis Kounellis in Six Acts (2022). He has also completed internships with the Clark Art Institute and the Williams College Museum of Art, both Williamstown, MA; as well as SFMOMA and Kadist Art Foundation, both San Francisco, CA. Recent writing contributions include texts on Rindon Johnson and Superflex in the 60th Venice Biennale exhibition and catalogue, Stranieri Ovunque/Foreigners Everywhere (2024), curated by Adriano Pedrosa. William holds an MA in the History of Art from Williams College and a BA in Art History/Art Management from the University of San Francisco. Born and raised in Orange County, CA, William currently resides in San Francisco.
